(note: i am issuing a trigger warning for this post due to stalker-ish behavior. please govern yourselves accordingly. thanks.)
no means no. no does not mean attempting to figure out their schedule so you can "just happen" to be at their job or standing outside of their class "just to say hi." no does not mean calling their place of employment over and over again hoping that you'll get a chance to talk to them. i know i don't need to remind my enlightened readers of certain rules of engagement, but apparently other assclowns out there need a refresher course.
one of my co-workers got asked out by a patron. they declined. patron somehow became fixated. kept asking. started calling work asking for co-worker. came in to check out books and return books damn near every day hoping that co-worker would be there. it's gotten to the point where all of us know enough of what's going on to run interference.
(actually, remember the patron in the first story
here? same patron as the one i'm venting about tonight.)
things came to a head today. during my shifts this week, i've seen this patron in and out a half-dozen times if i've seen them at all. my co-worker was already having a shitty week and when we first saw the patron today, i did what i normally do in these situations - told co-worker to disappear and that one of us would handle them. that got difficult as the day progressed, b/c this patron kept showing up. co-worker dealt with them a couple of times while our manager was nearby. patron didn't try asking for another date this time.
nope. this time, toward the end of the day, patron gave our manager a letter to give to co-worker. manager gave the letter to security b/c of "holy shit there might legit be something wrong with this patron" reasons. co-worker had a mini-breakdown. we all walked co-worker out of work today where their ride was waiting b/c shit had officially gotten real.
i walked to the train and pissed off doesn't even begin to cover where my emotions were at that point. then i started having flashbacks to freshman year, when some fucktard tried to hit on my then-bff and wouldn't take her no as an answer, so then he started showing up outside of her classes. would randomly appear at events/meetings she'd be attending. we made all kinds of reports but since he hadn't technically done anything wrong, there was nothing the administration could do...until he left a note on her dorm room door and we realized that he'd somehow gotten into her room and moved a couple of things around.
luckily, we had friends on the other side of campus that we both crashed with that night - her b/c she in no way felt safe in her room, and me tagging along b/c there was no way in hell that i was going to let her out of my sight that night.
more reports and meetings with administration followed. dude got a reprimand of some sort. he was graduating that year, if memory serves, and therefore there wasn't a need to, y'know, suspend or expel him or anything. that and i think his parents were relative bigwigs and had more clout than a couple of lowly freshmen did.
and even though my then-bff and i don't talk now, i still have a bit of survivor's guilt w/r/t this situation b/c the assclown in question tried to hit on me first. if my then-boyfriend hadn't been at the party with us, fucktard might've tried escalating shit with me. instead, he moved on, and essentially drove both me and my then-bff to a level of crazy and paranoia that neither of us wanted or needed to deal with for the rest of that school year.
suffice it to say that i have a very low tolerance for stalker-ish behavior. my then-bff didn't deserve that drama from damn near 20 years ago, my co-worker doesn't deserve the shit now, but these perpetrators deserve every last little bit of retribution i can rain down on them and then some, b/c fuck that.
can you tell that i have a very low tolerance for people who fuck with me and/or my friends? i know i joke a lot about flipping tables on folks' behalf, but i really will do that shit in real life if it came to it. i've said it before and i'll say it again now: fuck with me and mine at your own fucking peril.
