on: safe passages

the new "safe passages" signs are starting to pop up around chicago. the fact that 50 chicago public schools were closed but hey, let's spend money on signs that will probably have a minimal effect on curbing crime and violence around schools is just...ugh.
i was all set to write a screed in rahm's direction, but then i remembered that melissa harris-perry dedicated one of her "open letters" to mayor emanuel not too long ago, so i figured we could all watch it (again) and go from there.
